Twelfth night programme

who are jupiter creatives?

Hello! Thanks for joining us here. We're a new theatre company that specialises in Actor-Musician productions. The founding members, Ed, Harry, Madeleine and Persia, all trained at the Guildford School of Acting. We are at heart an actor muso company, but also so much more- we take original scores, live music, theatre, dance, and stage combat, and jumble it all together so you can't tell where one ends and the next begins. Long story short, you won't have seen anything like what we bring to the table, and we can't wait to share it with the world in our debut production of Twelfth Night.

ABOUT TWELFTH NIGHT...

Twelfth Night is a fast-paced romantic comedy with several interwoven plots of romance, mistaken identities and practical jokes. Separated from her twin brother Sebastian in a shipwreck, Viola disguises herself as a boy, calls herself Cesario, and becomes a servant to the Duke Orsino. He sends her to woo the Countess Olivia on his behalf, but the Countess falls in love with Cesario. Meanwhile Olivia’s uncle, Sir Toby Belch, gets drunk with his friend Sir Andrew Aguecheek and they play a trick on Malvolio, Olivia’s steward. Eventually Sebastian turns up and causes even more confusion, chaos and comedy.

WHERE DID WE COME FROM?

Some say we sailed into a forgotten cove on a moonless night when the wind was blowing two directions at once- but we say we first formed as a composition trio in Bulgaria! Our founders Madeleine, Persia and Harry were composing for a Shakespeare production and decided make a habit out of it. (We're actually named after a stray dog we befriended, a Husky called Jupiter). A couple of years later, Ed joined as our movement director, and here we are.

Director's notes

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, we feel, is the perfect starting place following the last year.

Illyria is a mystifying place where, even when the stars don’t align and household borders prevent connections, love can still be truly and deeply found there.

Our cast and creatives have worked tirelessly for two weeks to create something very special- that we hope uplifts and brings joy, raises questions and teaches lessons. But most of all, that love is a powerful thing which surpasses appearance, class and circumstance.

I have hugely enjoyed exploring this timeless comedy and moulding it to a group of modern Actor Musicians who bring a fresh perspective to the text. With our Actors performing our original score live on stage, we hope to embody how music can become an extension of a person, their language and their emotions.
